You got a call at a reasonably decent hour, for a change. When you answered, it was your old pal Peaceman, and he had a job offer. Meet Mr. Johnson at the Inara Indian restaurant in Brooklyn, at for lunch the next day.

Turning up, you noticed that the local protection gang, the Sainted Bastards were a bit nervous, and this seemed to project onto the restaurant’s dwarven owner Anuj. He offered good food at a good price, but before the team could seat and order, he noticed the sword that Khellian was carrying, and instead motioned them into the back storeroom, saying “Man here for your meeting already, back room. After you are done, come and eat.”

The meeting with the Johnson was somewhat unusual, clearly he had never done it before, as he tossed each of you 1,500 nuyen before he even started into his sales pitch. Just as well he did, as he wanted you to blow up the Brooklyn Bridge, one of the three remaining vehicle bridges that connect Manhattan to the mainland, and operated chiefly by Aztechnology.

He offered what everyone thought was a low price, but was negotiated up to 5,000 nuyen each, plus a bonus if they took out a caisson. He would even help out by supplying the explosives, from his company, KG Constructions. It didn’t take all that long to figure out the rest of the thing’s he wasn’t telling, namely that he was short on funds, and he had a better than average chance to get the rebuilding project, thanks to his husband’s brother sitting on the Brooklyn council.

After doing a through reconn of the Bridge, the team went down into the disused and ruined subways of Brooklyn, to see if you could access the caissons from underground. Apart from a devil rat attack and Weisse getting some minor infection from falling onto some of the faintly phosphorescent mold, you managed to find a decent spot.

Knowing that you would need some tools to get the explosives to the right spot, you broke into KG Constructions. Everything was going well, until Jeff Anderson (the Johnson’s husband) walked into the office to do some paperwork. Luckily, he was scared off, unluckily he called NYPD Inc on the way out, and given that the building was known to house explosive material, it wasn’t long before you heard sirens. Escaping quickly, you made off with the explosives, detonators and control boxes, along with a pair of small flying contruction drones, fitted with micro wielders, and some replacement tools for them.

Fitting the drill heads to the drones was easy, and after the holes were made, Wiesse oversaw the placement and arming of the bombs, whilst the others got hold of some cheap commlinks to relay the detonation command from the trigger units, to keep Weisse far away from the blast site, then gave him a time to detonate the explosives.

As Weisse waited, the others, using the rest of the explosives and some hacking from Bobby, loaded up a pair of the drones to take out the cables, and while they only got two of the three drones, Bobby crashed the last into the river, and sent the other two do perform their runs a little early.

The drones heavily damaged some of the support cables, and the bridge was closed, unfortunately a little early, as they couldn’t get to Weisse in time to detonate the underground explosives ahead of schedule, he blew the bridge when it was full of NYPD officers and a few structural engineers.

The team laid low for a day or so, then went to meet with their Johnson. Who, as it turned out had just been arrested by NYPD Inc for being responsible for the incident at the bridge. Peaceman was there instead, and he paid the team the remainder of their fees, and as he was leaving, and extremely beautiful and nice smelling woman showed up, thanked Bobby for his work, mentioned that more would be coming the team’s way, tossed over some more nuyen (1,500 each) and left. With the team having plenty of questions for their hacker.

Block War

After a good week off after stealing Starry Night, you received a call over your commlinks.

“Meet at 5pm, Carson Place Hotel, Conference Room 6.”

Curiosity peaked, you journeyed onto the isle of Manhattan, and entered the Hotel. Going up the stairs to the second floor, and entering the conference room, you were greeted by a odd sight. Sitting at the head of the table is a young dwarf girl, no more than thirteen, wearing a bright pink dress.

“Come in and sit please” she says “My daddy will be here in a minute”

Sitting at the table and looking around at some of the anachronistic furniture, including a dry-erase whiteboard. Sure enough, no more than five minutes later, an over-weight dwarf enters the room, carrying a pair of Chinese take away bags. Giving one to the young girl, he introduces himself as Klubbs, and his daughter as Cheli.

The job seems simple. Probably too simple, after you have a think. You are to break into Ignesys, a medium-sized business that develops front-end interfaces for various Matrix programs, then prank them. Some things that their client wants to see: foam in the fire system, then have it activate at 10am, put laxatives into the water cooler, TP the managers offices, and anything else to cause mischief, but not anything to disrupt them so they lose money.

After a quick recon of the offices by Bobby, posing as a reporter from a “nothing” farming journal looking into innovations for their market led to a few more ideas for pranks. Taking a short time to collect some stuff, Wraith hid out in the office, and after, in concert with Bobby, got rid of the last employee who was staying back playing some game, opened the doors for the others, and they got to work.

Feeling pleased with themselves, they left the office, and watched the office using some micro-cameras left there, amused by the office workers antics as the laxatives and thermostat tweaking made things more and more uncomfortable, and when the fire sprinklers went off dousing the place in semi-fluorescent foam, summoning the fire brigade, you left the scene.

After a short call from Klubbs, you returned to the hotel, and found Klubbs under guard from six large orcs. Seated either side of Klubbs are a youngish man and an older man, and you recognise the younger as Gary Deltona, someone you recently worked for. The two new Johnsons, pay you off, and tell everyone present that no one is to accept any further jobs for “pranks” against Ignensys or Chelsey (the other party in the prank war).

You agree, enjoy a meal with Klubbs and Cheli after the Johnsons leave, and head back to your homes, thinking the job is over.

Early the next morning, you get a call from Cheli, who is really upset. You don’t make out much, apart from “daddy’s dead” and an address. Arriving at the location, you find Cheli kneeling over her father’s body, which, apart from the two pistol rounds has had it’s neck broken. Bobby called NYPD Inc., who sent a patrol car, then after seeing that there actually was a body, called in a detective. MC took care of Cheli, whist the others tried to work out what happened. Shortly after MC left with Cheli, to get her things and take her to the brownstone safehouse in Queens.

Not too long after, you received a pair of comm calls, one from Deltona, one from the other Johnson. Both want you to steal a trophy from Ignensys and return it to Chelsey. Deltona also wants you to leave a “salt shaker” in it’s place, whilst the older Johnson was going to do something later. The older Johnson, did however, offer some access cards to get into the various offices.

Accepting the jobs, the team stole the trophy from Ignensys and left the beautiful salt shaker, and headed across the road to Chelsey. There you got into some trouble, as a team of runners was there, who opened up on the team immediately. After a short but intense battle, where Weisse went down from a full auto blast from a Doberman drone, but no before killing a troll with his bare hands.

After a bit of healing, the team explored the offices of Chelsey searching for explosives after they found some demolition tools on the dead opposing forces. Unfortunately, they failed to spot a laser beam that detonated a series of high explosive charges that nearly killed MC and Weisse (again). Leaving the trophy on a pile of rubble, the team quickly left, especially as the noise of sirens was getting steadily louder.

Returning to the brownstone, they found that MC had given over Cheli to Ieto Hong, and in exchange received a Eurocar Westwind 3000. Convincing the others that it was a good thing, the team retired to their homes to rest and recover.

Ready, Set, Gogh

It was a cold March day, when you received a call to meet a Johnson at the Marquee Club on the island.

Getting there was easy, as was getting into the club, thanks to a codeword, “Vincent”. Unfortunately, that was the easy part of the meet. With the noise and crowd, the Johnson had to pull out an old style Cyberdeck, though modernised with Trodes, and conducted the meeting through that.

The job, steal from the Museum of Modern Art. The target, Starry Night. No, not that Starry Night, the new transgenic art piece by Hanso Mach, a collection of genetically modified and “trained” fish, that swims a maze in their metre sized tank that shows sections of the famous Van Gogh piece at regular intervals.

Your plan was straight forward, scope the museum, acquire some high quality trideo of the tank, then swap out the tank for a custom one with a holo projector in the bottom, playing a loop of the recorded trideo to give the illusion the piece was real.

The heist went off without a hitch. Bobby, the teams computer expert, rigged the system and diverted the guards, while Wraith and MC, the stealth expert and the negotiator headed in under an invisibility spell and did the swap, while Khellian went to see if they could disable the hard-linked panic button. Discovering that the door to the comms equipment was locked, and that the stealth expert was upstairs dropping the valuable art piece to the floor, Khellian returned to the van, wondering why he didn’t go with MC, as he could have leviated the piece easily, and Wraith could have picked the lock.

Delivering the piece to the Johnson, and on their way back to returning the loaned van, they were told to pull off the road by Ieto Hong, the head of security for the Manhattan office of Horizon.

There, he offered a new job to the team. Break into the Johnson’s house and steal back Starry Night, and return it to the museum. In addition, steal two more pieces of art, Perpetual Magic and Tribble.

Quickly stopping off at a pet store and aquiring some items, the team got past the ridiculously inept guards on the Johnson’s house, and removed the requested items, leaving in their place a goldfish (for Starry Night), a hamster (for the Tribble), and the old analogue wall clock from the pet store in the place of Perpetual Magic.

Feeling immensely pleased with themselves, the party returned Starry Night to MoMA, scaring the daylights out of the head of security, saying the theft had been a test, extracting a promise from him to beef up the security system, and then dropped off the other two artworks to an orphanage in Hell’s Kitchen, getting them huge thanks, and several offers of kids to adopt.

A strange night to be sure, but at least you got paid

The First Run

So, the first run.

Should have been cake, but somehow you ended up with a nearly dead team member.

All you had to do was find and extract a woman from Manhattan, and pack her off to Denver.

Admittedly, getting into the isle of Manhattan, the Rotten Apple, was tricky, though once you got through the checkpoint onto the island, you managed to work your way through the Triads, Corps and other lowlifes to find your target.

At least you got paid, and made a friend in Peace Man.

A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.
